What are Dental Bridges?
Fixed dental bridges are designed to replace missing teeth. If you are missing a tooth, the bridge will attach to the two surrounding teeth, with a false tooth in the middle that rests on the gum line. Most bridges can last for years, and even several decades, before needing replacement. They are a viable alternative to implants for patients who cannot undergo oral surgery. The procedure is quick and easy, normally requiring about two appointments to complete.

What makes you a good candidate for dental bridges?
Dental bridges are often beneficial to patients who may not want oral surgery to place implants, or cannot undergo oral surgery. Bridges are long-lasting, in most cases staying firmly in place for decades before replacement is needed. To determine if you will need a bridge, you can come in for an exam and consultation. We can even remove an old bridge, replacing it with a brand new one, as necessary.
What can you expect with a bridge appointment?
The first step is to numb the area with a local anesthetic. After you are comfortable, the two surrounding teeth are filed down to accommodate the new bridge. Impressions are taken of the teeth and sent to a lab where a permanent bridge is made for you. You will come in for a second appointment and have the bridge placed. It is not uncommon for bridges to need slight adjustments to improve bite and feel. We can give you important advice on how to care for your new bridge once it has been placed.
